Where to stay at Camber Sands: every option compared

Most "where to stay at Camber" pages are written by the people selling the cottages. We are not. Here is an honest run-through of every accommodation type, who it suits, and where you are better off basing in Rye and travelling to the beach.

📰 Pontins Camber Sands: current status As of June 2026, Pontins Camber Sands remains closed. Britannia Hotels closed the resort abruptly on 30 November 2023. In December 2024, Britannia confirmed an intent to redevelop the site as a holiday destination following meetings with Rother District Council and MP Helena Dollimore, but no start date has been announced and the lease still has more than 100 years to run. The site remains fenced and derelict. Do not book Pontins for Camber Sands. The active options are below.

💡 Rye or Camber? The short version: Stay in Camber if the beach is the whole point of the trip and you want to walk out of your front door to the sand. Stay in Rye if you want pubs, restaurants, history and atmosphere in the evenings, and you do not mind a 15 to 20 minute bus or drive to the beach. Many people prefer Rye in the shoulder seasons and Camber in the height of summer.
