How to get to Camber Sands

Camber Sands has one road in and one road out. On hot days that road gridlocks, and the council sometimes closes it altogether when the car parks fill. For a day trip from London, train and bus is often quicker and cheaper than driving once you factor in the £30 parking. Here are all your options.

Train + 102 bus (the car-free route)

The nearest railway station is Rye, on the Marshlink line between Ashford International and Hastings. From Rye, Stagecoach bus 102 (Rye to Camber to Lydd) runs roughly hourly and takes 15 to 20 minutes to the Camber Sands Holiday Park stop.

  • London St Pancras to Ashford International: around 37 minutes by high speed
  • Ashford International to Rye: around 25 minutes on the Marshlink line
  • Rye station to Camber Sands: 15 to 20 minutes on the 102 bus
  • Door to beach from London is typically around 1h45 once connections are factored in
  • First 102 from Rye is around 07:07; last bus back is around 20:10. Plan your exit
  • Bus 313 serves Rye Harbour separately (handy for the nature reserve)
⚠️ The 102 stops running early evening. If you miss the last bus, a taxi from Camber back to Rye is your fallback, and they are not always immediately available in the holiday season. Set an alarm for around 19:30 if you are aiming for the last service.

By car

  • From London: 1.5 to 2 hours via the M20
  • From Brighton: around 1.5 hours via the A27 and A259
  • From Hastings: around 30 minutes via the A259

By bike (the local hack)
